The Keg Bus

Oh yes, you read the title correctly. Saturday night our townhouse complex had a visit from the Keg Bus.

There we were in bed finishing up a movie thinking about going to sleep. It was only 10:30, but in our defense we did go out for dinner last night. Anyway, we heard a loud whirring noise outside that we assumed was a helicopter. However, after about 5 minutes curiosity got the better of me and I looked out the window. At first glance, I reported to Joe that it was only a diesel school bus and it looked like some kids were being dropped off (although this would be strange at 10:30 on Sat. night, maybe a sport event???). But wait, this school bus had black lights on the inside of it and looked pretty souped up. Oh, and the "kids" standing outside the bus, they were smoking and holding beers. Hmmm. At this point I also noticed the loud music pouring out of the bus and could just barely see the shadows of people dancing inside. I crawled back into bed as Joe hopped out to see this for himself. He was wearing his glasses, and that's when we discovered the huge sign on the bus "The Keg Bus". Yeah, this was definitely not a Fairfax County Public School Bus.

As time went on, the music got louder, the people outside got louder until it was an all-out noise disturbance. Not to mention that it made me nervous about the company we are keeping in our complex (now that I am a mother and all). To show you how old we truly are now, Joe headed downstairs to call the company of the bus to complain (nicer than calling the police, he thought), but thankfully it pulled away about that time.

But if you're in the DC area, Keg Bus can take care of all your party vehicle needs!

Michelle Got the Boot

Michelle left Team Dickerson at the beginning of February. I never got around to posting about it because I did not have the capacity of mind at the time and because things were getting baby crazy. She, however, wrote a great post about our time together. Check it out:

We miss and love you bunches Michelle!

An Open Letter

We started this blog for two reasons. One, to share the goings-on of Team Dickerson and two, to have a written record of events of our family for us and our child(ren) to read in the future.

Open letters seem to be all the rage these days, so today we write an open letter to Grayson. (don't worry, it's not too mushy)

Dear Grayson,

We sit down to write this two weeks into your life to tell you about yourself. Sometimes you sound like a puppy when you sleep, little yelps in the middle of naps come out of nowhere. Right now you have no control over your facial expressions and run through them all during nap time. You can go from smiling, surprised, curious, and grumpy old man in no time at all. You are having quite the love affair with your pacifier. The world is always made right again when we give it to you. You are not a huge fan of eating. We have to work the entire time to keep you awake and interested. Some of the things we do to try and wake you up: change your diaper (more about that later), crank your arm, tickle your feet, undress you, turn the fans and lights on, and place a cold wet wipe on your back or tummy. Obviously, you are not thrilled with us waking you up and probably see all of this as torture. However, you HAVE to eat and will probably laugh about this when you are 13 and eating us out of house and home. And speaking of torture, you really hate having your diaper changed. This is really the only time of the day you let loose and wail. Hank's protective barking does not phase you at all. When he sees something out the window and barks, we may jump out of our skin from surprise, but you stay as calm as can be. You also don't mind when he walks by and gives you a lick on the back of your head. You are the squirmiest creature we have ever known. There is no stopping your arms and legs, and you constantly wake yourself up with them if we don't swaddle you. Now we finally know what you were doing in mommy's tummy all those nights she was trying to sleep. Basically, we think you are the GREATEST thing ever and are having a blast with you.

We love you and can't imagine life without you!
