One Less (Not an endorsement for Gardasil)

What a month. March was a doozy in the Dickerson household and we are spent. There are several things going on, but we will spare you all but two of them.

First of all, Grayson was sick from Feb. 23rd (his bday) until about a week ago. He had ear infections and colds that would not go away and I can't even tally how much we have spent on co-pays at the pediatrician's. Once that was done, the doctor felt that his heightened irritability combined with NOT eating meant his reflux was back on the prowl. Most likely all of the antibiotics in his system had "angered" it, so we're back on Prevacid for a little while. He seems to be getting happier and is eating more each day.

And now on to the major change in the household: Hank.

Hank has always loved people, but never had a problem telling other dogs when to back off. There have not been many dogs that he gets along with, which is why we no longer go to the dog park. We truly believe he prefers humans to dogs. He has been skittish around small kids in the past, but we figured that once it was his baby he would be fine....and he was for a year. On the morning of Grayson's birthday, Hank snapped at him and caught him on the head and near the eye. We came up with all sorts of reasons that this happened and stepped up Hank's training, exercise, and our vigilance in watching Grayson's interactions with him. Things went great for 2 weeks. They played together, Grayson petted him, took bones out of his mouth, crawled after him, nothing. And then it happened again (Grayson wasn't even touching Hank at the time). At that point we felt that the decision had been made for us- Hank would have to move. Grayson is only going to get more mobile and more grabby with his dog and next time Hank might take his eye completely out.

THANKFULLY, Mom and Dad wanted to take him so Hank has moved to Camp Wheat in Texas. They have always had a love affair with each other, and when Mom comes to visit she always tries to get Hank to sleep with her in the guest room. He has been there for a week, and despite some growing pains (digging!) and sadness, everyone is adjusting quite nicely. And we are one less.

We have had a pretty hard time (especially me) and there have been a few, OR many tears, which is why this post has been so belated. However, we seem to have turned a corner over the weekend and are doing our best to move on.

Before he left we gave him a farewell party and his friends (again, people) came to say goodbye. Thanks to Bryan, Melissa, Chris, Noel, Gene, Victoria, Jonah, Chris, Jessica, Hope and Billy for humoring us!

Making the rounds:

Anybody else coming, ya'll?

Doing our party trick- which has not been done since before I was pregnant.

Special good-bye time with his best friends- Bryan and Melissa.

Worn plum out at the end of the party

We miss you, Hank! Be good for Gran and Poppi and we'll see you soon!

Right decisions can be very hard sometimes. You two are the best parents and we are proud of you.

Oh No! We are so sorry to hear about Hank. At least he's still in the family. I can't imagine making that decision, but nothing is more important than that sweet baby boy.

Wow- what a heart-wrenching decision. Glad that Hank is with your family and that Grayson is ok! He's so cute!

I really am sorry for this! That's a bummer, and I'll miss him next time I'm in town. I know how much a Hank fan you guys were.

Oh Hank! I think you were meant to be an only-child/dog. So glad you are at least back in Texas. That alone will do wonders for your little heart.
We are sorry to hear you had to part with your pup. Good job on the party. That's the stuff of memories!
