An Open Letter

We started this blog for two reasons. One, to share the goings-on of Team Dickerson and two, to have a written record of events of our family for us and our child(ren) to read in the future.

Open letters seem to be all the rage these days, so today we write an open letter to Grayson. (don't worry, it's not too mushy)

Dear Grayson,

We sit down to write this two weeks into your life to tell you about yourself. Sometimes you sound like a puppy when you sleep, little yelps in the middle of naps come out of nowhere. Right now you have no control over your facial expressions and run through them all during nap time. You can go from smiling, surprised, curious, and grumpy old man in no time at all. You are having quite the love affair with your pacifier. The world is always made right again when we give it to you. You are not a huge fan of eating. We have to work the entire time to keep you awake and interested. Some of the things we do to try and wake you up: change your diaper (more about that later), crank your arm, tickle your feet, undress you, turn the fans and lights on, and place a cold wet wipe on your back or tummy. Obviously, you are not thrilled with us waking you up and probably see all of this as torture. However, you HAVE to eat and will probably laugh about this when you are 13 and eating us out of house and home. And speaking of torture, you really hate having your diaper changed. This is really the only time of the day you let loose and wail. Hank's protective barking does not phase you at all. When he sees something out the window and barks, we may jump out of our skin from surprise, but you stay as calm as can be. You also don't mind when he walks by and gives you a lick on the back of your head. You are the squirmiest creature we have ever known. There is no stopping your arms and legs, and you constantly wake yourself up with them if we don't swaddle you. Now we finally know what you were doing in mommy's tummy all those nights she was trying to sleep. Basically, we think you are the GREATEST thing ever and are having a blast with you.

We love you and can't imagine life without you!

What a sweet boy! Sounds like he is already Hank's buddy. He is beautiful and seems quite big to have come from you, Ashleigh. =) Can't wait to watch him start growing...but not too fast.

Everytime we look at the pictures of Grayson, Allen gets so excited and starts talking to my belly about his friend Grayson. They don't know if yet but they are going to be BFF's! Love you!

So happy to see the pictures. I can tell, "you're in love" and rightly so. There's nothing like it. Enjoy your sweet time.

Can you believe he's now almost a month old already? He is a handsome fellow. I hope I get to meet him one day soon. I don't know how it would happen, but I think he and my sweet niece Clara would make a lovely couple, even if she is a slightly older woman. Is it too early to be talking college at A&M? :) Love you all.
